On April 25th I attended an Elvis Tribute Artist Concert at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, von Braun Center, Huntsville, Alabama, with the proceeds benefiting the Huntsville-Madison County Veteran’s Memorial Foundation (HMCVMF).
Since dedication in 2011, the Memorial has become the center of activity honoring our military veterans and educating our local citizens about the history of our nation from the Revolutionary War to current activities.
This concert has significance honoring events that took place right here in Huntsville, Alabama 40 years ago. May 31, 1975, through June 1, 1975. Elvis Presley was truly inspired by the superb reaction he received in Huntsville, selling out five back to back performances. It is the only time in his career that he performed so many consecutive shows in one City – OUR TOWN – THE ROCKET CITY. Here is a picture of Elvis down on one knee during the Matinee performance on June 1, 1975.
Special guests include the ORIGINAL singers who performed with Elvis in 1975!! “The Sweet Inspirations” and former members of J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet! That is Awesome!!
