Bobbie Knight

President—Miles College, Birmingham, Alabama

Retired from Alabama Power Company, where she served in a variety of leadership and management roles, including as Vice President of the Birmingham Division (Alabama Power’s largest division), Vice President of Public Relations, and General Manager of Supply Chain. Since August of 2019, Bobbie Knight has been serving as the President of Miles College, private, liberal arts Historically Black College in Alabama.

 Intro to her story:

“True grit” is simply inner strength, and I am fortunate to have been raised around and by some very strong and independent women. I believe that made me strong and independent, too. To me, having true grit means planting My mother was that way.  So were my aunts. Yes, they were of a different generation, and they did not have the advantages I did. That’s why they were adamant about our seizing every opportunity we had, particularly when that opportunity did not come . . .
